Project Status

Our two projects are online since mid 2006.

The knowledge base of Project Athinai is already populated. Additions to this knowledge base will be made at users' requests (contact us). Even though several 3D models are already created, they will not be available through downloads before some time. Due to a lack of sponsors, the virtual walkthroughs have been postponed.

Concerning our Project SYW, we have created a comprehensive structure for the knowledge base and the members of our community have already published more than 1,800 detailed articles and 2,800 illustrations. About Kronoskaf

Taking advantage of the evolution of collaboration softwares, 3D modeling tools, and real time rendering engines; we intend to build large knowledge bases and virtual reality environments for selected periods of history.

The periods that we have chosen for our initial projects are:

  • Project Athinai: a knowledge base and 3D reconstruction (including virtual walkthroughs) of Athens in 421 BC, at the height of its power
  • Project SYW: a knowledge base presenting the various nations who took part in the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), their armies and navies, as well as the campaigns, battles, and sieges where they have been involved

To sustain these projects, we use a hybrid business model:

  • the content of the knowledge bases (texts, images, and some videos) is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. The maintenance and evolution of these knowledge bases are financed through users' donations, ads and our various affiliations.
  • the 3D models, virtual walkthroughs, and most videos are all protected by copyright. Their maintenance and evolution are financed by their sale as downloadable files.

This way, we will be in a position to offer to our users a growing amount of free information on selected periods while maintaining sustainable business activities.
