Introduction

The Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin had a small army. He had sided with Sweden and France but the Prussians invaded his duchy in 1757, recruiting 4,000 foot and 1,000 dragoons to incorporate in the army of Frederick II in Silesia; requisitioning 3,000 horses for the artillery and train; and raising a contribution of 2 million Thaler and a large quantity of flour.
