Origin and History

On October 21, 1761, Baron Wrangel was authorized to raise a second regiment of hussars, often designated as the “Gula Husarerna” (Yellow Hussars) counting six squadrons for a total of 800 troopers. However, it took a lot of time to raise this regiment.

Finally, during the spring of 1762, the Kronprinsens Husarregemente (aka Blå Husarerna) contributed five squadrons (about 320 men) for the constitution of the new regiment, which was organised along the Prussian model.

During the Seven Years' War, the regiment was under the command of:

  • from October 20, 1761: Colonel Baron (Friherre af Adinal) Georg Gustaf Wrangel
  • from 1763: Lars Åkerhielm
  • from 1764 to 1766: M. C. Lewenhaupt

In 1766, the present regiment and the Blå Hussars were merged back into a single regiment and renamed the Hussar Regiment under the command of Mörner.
